My Fellow Photog is back in action!
And i am SO pumped to bring you this weeks interview with Jessica Higgins Photography from Connecticut.
Jessica specializes in amazing newborn photography and i swoon over her work often.
I have also been blessed to have Jessica as a personal friend of mine. I am a lucky girl like that!
How long have you been shooting?
I have been shooting for 5 years
Describe your brand
Organic, simple, pastel and soft colors
Describe a typical work day for you.
Up at 6:30am to get the kids off to school at 7:50. Then Check emails and small tasks till 9am. Then the next hour is off to the gym for me. I have learned that you need to put yourself first and take care of yourself. Home from the gym, shower and edit and fill orders and return client phone calls throughout the day.
If it is a day I am photographing a newborn, scratch emails and other small tasks, get ready for a 9am session. Newborns go between 2&4 hours. Once the session is over, I come upstairs and start to download my card and grab another shower and some lunch! I work until my kids come home at 3:30. Most days, I work for an hour in the evening after the kids head to bed to wrap up any open tasks or return phone calls/emails.
Tell us about your family
I have been married to my husband for 12 1/2 years and together for 19! He is my best friend and a great dad to our two kids. Our daughter is 8! Gosh, when did that happen? She is spunky and a free spirit! My little guy is 6 and such a cuddler! I love it! Some days I can’t believe how grown up they are both getting! Time really does go by so quickly!
Tell us something weird about you? Anything goes!
Hmm… well when I laugh really hard, I snort! I used to think it was embarrassing, but whatever! It’s a part of who I am and I like me!
What are you listening to?
It changes all the time and it’s rather eclectic, but at the moment, Muse, The Killers, Snow Patrol, Linkin Park, Mumford & Sons, Florence + The Machine. Well, I warned you, it’s rather eclectic!
What is something you do to save time or be more efficient in your home life?
I try and do on or two cleaning things each day. Like dust and do the bathrooms one day, vacuum and wash floors on another. That way, I don’t have to have a whole day of cleaning.
If you could change something about your home, without worry about expense or mess, what would you do?
Well, it would be two things! I would build a stand alone studio and put in a pool!
What is something that always makes you laugh?
My son! He can be a silly nut!
Share a family tradition you love?
I love going to church on Christmas eve with the kids and my husband. It is one of my favorites! Oh and I love going on a drive with the kids to go look at Christmas lights!
What is your guilty pleasure?
That’s easy! Starbucks! I love a triple shot, skinny vanilla latte, but my hubs hates when I get them, he thinks they are too expensive!
What is your go to dinner on a busy day?
Lazy Shepard’s Pie
If you could do a photo session anywhere in the world where would that be?
The rainforest of the Pacific Northwest! And I was lucky enough two years ago to do it, for my good friend!
Do you like to Bake?
Are you a coffee person?
YES! Did I mention my Starbucks addiction?
When you were a little girl what did you want to be when you grew up?
A nurse for a while, until I discovered that I don’t like the sight of blood and then a teacher! (I taught for 13 years)
What is something that you feel has made your life so much easier? Like a new gadget or a new routine or anything.
My iPhone. I have everything on it, phone numbers, calendar, music, even stuff for the kids.
Is there anything else you want our readers to know about you or your business?
I absolutely, LOVE newborn photography! It truly makes my heart sing! I taught school for 13 years and once I started photographing newborns, I just new that this is what I was meant to be doing! I have been solely running my photography business for 4 years! I love photographing little ones who are so new and fresh in the world and I adore the feeling that I get when I give their parents their gallery!
